Barb's Travel Journal: Antarctica Provisions
Here's my list of recommended Antarctica expedition clothing.
Shipboard
- Non-skid, water-resist shoes
- thongs (for shower and possible swim at Deception Island)
- slacks/jeans/sweaters/shirts/socks/etc.
Landings
- waterproof or water resist Parka with hood, and lots of pockets
- rain pants, large enough to go over warm pants
- knee high rubber boots
- thermal inserts for rubber boots
- sock liners
- wool socks
- Goretex oversocks or neoprene bootie
- polartec pants
- thermal underwear
- glove liners
- waterproof or water resist warm mittens
- (I suggest attaching mittens to parka for convenience while photographing.)
- polartec sweatshirt with hood or balaclava
Equipment
- camera with UV filter, polarizing filter, telephoto lens and wide angle lens
- binoculars
- handkerchief
- UV protecting wrap-around sunglasses. You may also consider polarizing lenses.
- sun block lotion
Don't Bother with...
- rain slicker
- hiking boots
- nice clothes
